Hunger strike

E-mail Print PDF

Joshua and Tjostolv were moved to another cell on Wednesday when a hole were discovered in the roof over their cell and cells close to them. And so they were accused of attempted escape in Norwegian media on Thursday! It was printed in black and white somewhere that they where even caught while they were escaping!? What are you journalists doing? What the journalists do is speak to the warden of the prison, because they have his number. The warden doesn’t know what to believe, but even the Congolese don’t understand how Joshua and Tjostolv have managed to dig the hole. The journalists make their own conclusions. In addition, the boys say themselves; they want the hole in the roof fixed, because it rains in there.

While the cell is repaired the boys are in a new cell, right next door to the disco. Because of all the speculations the warden is now afraid they’re going to escape and has placed a guard to keep an eye on them all day! The guard is a fellow inmate, and he has to report to the warden. What’s he going to say? How often they use the toilet? Joshua and Tjostolv’s privacy is invaded. In addition their routine were they sleep during the day and are awake all night (those who follow the case knows that this is because of all the noise in the prison) is totally ruined because they have to watch over their belongings while this guard is awake all day. Their training routines are ruined and their safety is poor.

All Joshua and Tjostolv wants is to be left alone. They have been in this prison over two years (28 months) without making any trouble and they want to keep it that way. But when their human rights and privacy is violated in this degree they have now decided to go on a hunger strike…

Something has to be done. They can’t go on living in an unbearable place like this? They claim that they don’t enforce death penalty in Congo, but many people die in prison that they keep quiet about.
