Media and jokes

E-mail Print PDF

Throughout 16 months we’ve lived in kind of a state of crisis. It’s important to maintain the good moments, and laugh at a joke and have some fun even though we carry the boys and their situation with us all the time.

Sometimes we just start laughing because the situation can seem so deadlocked, and then it can be nice to resolve to some gallows humor sometimes too.

Joshua has kind of an English understatement humor that I laughed at a lot last autumn, but it wasn’t always well received in the media, and wasn’t always understood by some Norwegians.

VG called me the other day for a brief interview where they asked me what I thought about the huge money claim from the widow. I started laughing because it’s just so unrealistic, and just threw out a joke, something like: .. so then they just have to stay there in the prison. I never dreamt that the comment would make it to the papers. Someone has understood that the remark was made as a joke, but others haven’t.

That remark was meant as a joke, but I understand that similar to when we had to tell Josh to tone down his understatement jokes, I too have to be very serious when journalists call, and at least not fling with my lip, and tell a joke.
