Mathilde Moland, Tjostolv’s mother is going to Kisangani on Tuesday (22. june) to visit Tjostolv Moland and Joshua French. Then she’s going to Kinshasa where she’s going to meet the Congolese Presidents wife, Mrs. Kabila. She is going to talk with the President’s wife, and deliver a letter where she asks for a pardon for Tjostolv and Joshua. This is as a gesture from Congo in connection with Congo’s 50 year anniversary as an independent nation.
This is supposedly happening in connection with an interview by an American TV station. There is reason to believe that Congolese authorities wants closure for this tragic and sad case. There is common practice in many countries to give amnesty in connection with Grand National anniversaries.
The families can only hope for a solution. If amnesty isn’t going to happen, the Foreign Ministry has an agreement on a date where negotiations of a transfer can start.
Mothers have a strong position in Congo, and at least Mathilde has done what she can to help. And we just have to hope for a solution.
