After the death sentences from the appeal the Foreign Ministry has sent some official notes to central authorities in Kinshasa and to the Congolese embassy in Sweden. What the notes say and who they are sent to I don’t know. It was nice to see that one of the judges said to the media that he felt bad about the death sentences.

Maybe the UN rapport you can find under the rubric SAKEN (the case) has some correct information and maybe they now can start to take a closer look at that angle. When they discovered in the appeal that the widow gets help with money from the Dina-Foundation the person who gives her this money on behalf of the foundation got into trouble. This person has been interrogated at the safety office several times in the last two weeks, and is also being monitored. Also the person who brings food to the prison is being suspected and monitored. Things aren’t easy, and we as their family are relying on someone doing these practical things on our behalf.

This Congo-case is very unpredictable. Now all of a sudden a famous Italian lawyer has taken an interest in the case of the two Norwegians. The former president Laurent Kabila (present president Joseph Kabila’s father) owed him a favour and he would like to collect that in the sense that the boys are being pardoned. He has sent a letter with a plea of pardon of the two to the president.

There is a bit quiet in the media at the moment when it comes to the two Norwegians. Everybody has left Kisangani now, but luckily a seaman’s priest will go down to them on December 17th and stay with the boys over Christmas. The regular Africa-priest is sick, so it will be someone else who will go in his place, but he has been in Africa before, and is well aware of the conditions in different countries there.

Joshua has felt good recently, but he is tired and bored. Tjostolv wasn’t happy with the people he shared a cell with during the night, and has now moved back to Joshua’s cell at night as well. They were in the cell together during the day. There they have a plastic table and two chairs!

I have been in touch with the organisation Reprieve and with different Medias in England.

I’m waiting for information on a British lawyer at the moment who also wants to get involved in the case. He works for something called The Death Penalty Project, and will work Pro bono for Joshua. And what helps Joshua will of course also help Tjostolv.
