We’ve now gotten the conclusions Monusco (UN’s peace keeping forces in Congo) has made of the incident on June 7th 2011.
They have concluded that neither the guards nor the four representatives from Monusco have done anything reprehensible when they made their routine investigation in the Central Prison. They are presented as innocent angels. I haven’t gotten the name of the people who did the investigation after Joshua’s report, but when Josh and Tjostolv got a visit from two from the investigating office in the prison they knew at once that it would lead to a full exoneration of the four representatives from Monusco.
The report comes to the conclusion that when Josh and Tjostolv demanded that their lawyer were present kept the other prisoners from doing their daily chores (whatever that could be in a boring prison where Josh and Tjostolv are the only ones who activate the prisoners.)
Neither the four representatives nor the guards or other who came to from the military did anything wrong according to the report.
The 2000 dollars have been deposited into the bank! In what name one can wonder.
It was pointed out that they’re not allowed to have so much money in their cell.
That is easily explained. It’s safer for Josh and Tjostolv to have the money hidden in their cell than anywhere else.
The Congolese who we hired that collects the money when they’re sent from Western Union has been attacked once when he collected them, so it’s just not safe to have them anywhere else. This is also money that covers the expenses of the clinic.
The transfer itself also costs money so it’s better to transfer larger amounts. The representatives from Monusco seem to have forgotten that the Norwegian prisoners have to pay for EVERYTHING they need to survive. They have to take unforeseen situations into consideration as well, like the Congolese we pay to purchase all necessities for them can be sick etc. So they need to have money in their cell.
What this UN-report doesn’t answer is if Josh and Tjostolv had a right to see identification of the representatives and if they had a right to have their lawyer present during the investigation. The report doesn’t answer why two of the representatives engaged themselves way out of their assignment both with the raid (who was meant to be a routine investigation) or the threats they made against the two Norwegians. The report didn’t address that the four representatives allowed the guards to steal personal items not only from the two Norwegians but several of the other prisoners in the prison etc.
UN in Africa is full of corruption and crap. (Just think about the genocide in Rwanda).
These representatives from Monusco are assigned to be observers, mentors and advisors according to the report we received from the UN. The only conclusion can be that they haven’t done what they were supposed to according to their assignment and are bad representatives for an organization that should have a completely different standard.
