It’s been negotiations on making prisoners happy

E-mail Print PDF

I’ve just been in contact with Kisangani. The negotiations between Congolese authorities and the prisoners were no success. But with help from the Red Cross there has been a “reconciliation” and “weapon still stand” that were organized about two hours ago (From about 13.00). Red Cross has been given permission to provide food of all kinds to the prison and they work on getting the electricity back – it’s possibly back now.

The prisoners are going to control themselves within the walls like they normally do. Tomorrow the governor is meant to visit and maybe the police will be allowed in as well. Right now it’s calm and every belly is filling up with food. Josh thought it wouldn’t be any rebellion this evening and the night to come. It’s not unusual with rebellion in election-times. A lot of people are incarcerated without trials rotting away and die. Through my contact with Reprieve in England British Foreign Ministry were contacted last night. Norwegian Foreign Ministry has also contacted their British colleagues today as far as I know. I too have a contact in the British Foreign Ministry. Foreign Ministry is in contact with Monusco (UN) in Kisangani and has also contacted the Congolese Justice Department.
