What’s happening in Congo?

E-mail Print PDF

The boys have now been in Kisangani for over 300 days. In Dagbladet today it said that a colonel named Jean Philippe Kiama Matra stated that it’s not an option to send them to Kinshasa. It appears that the case will run its course in the military Supreme Court in Kinshasa without the boys present.

There are obviously strong forces in Kisangani who wants to keep them there, probably to see if there is any money to get. There are also supposedly military forces in Kisangani who wants them executed.

It is being speculated that the case will be sent back to Kisangani for a second try. It would be no point in that, just another repeat of the madness there.

Of course it’s starting to take its toll on the boys, they have been sick a lot. Luckily they’re relatively healthy at the time being, but if months go by, it’s probably just a matter of time. When the Supreme Court has handled the case, one way or another I’m counting on the Norwegian and British Foreign Ministry to take action and get this case over with.

To sit there under the conditions they’re in, until sickness and death comes for them is a fate worse than execution, I’m counting on the Foreign Ministry to understand that.

I don’t think too many people believe in the question of guilt in this case. Nothing adds up regarding the weapon or statements from the “witnesses” or anything. This includes a death sentence for espionage in favour of Norway, where they were members of the secret organisation The Royal Guard. If they die down there either from decease or execution there will not be many people who would accept money aid to these types of countries. It would probably be difficult to take Norwegian protests against the death penalty seriously in different countries if Norway can’t prevent abuse or murder (whether it’s from decease or execution) on their own citizens. It will be hollow and pathetic.

We have to believe that there will be a solution, but it’s obvious that time is working against the boys.
