An epidemic of tuberculosis in the prison in Kisangani

E-mail Print PDF

Tjostolv called yesterday, on April 12th. He told us that there is an epidemic of tuberculosis in the prison. He thought Joshua might be infected. He had symptoms like fever and a dry cough.

Tjostolv wanted to call his aunt Siri for advice, she is a doctor. It is clear that when the sanitary conditions are the way they are in this prison, conditions for infection are optimal. The boys take all the precautions to prevent infection, but it’s not easy. It’s not nice when they also know that they can’t count on medical attention. The doctor who treated Tjostolv for malaria got arrested. They suspected that he tried to poison him.

Thanks so much to all of you who have posted money into their accounts. And the Inmate to Inmate account. The money is used for food and medicine, and has already saved many lives.

They’ve had malaria; Tjostolv also had cerebral malaria. Typhoid fever and different worms in their intestines and now they have to face an epidemic of tuberculosis. Not even animals deserve this kind of treatment. This has got to end soon.
